Clyst Hydon v Whimple (Friendly)
Clyst Hydon v Whimple - Sunday 4th May 2008
Despite the weather forecast suggesting that everyone in devon would be under water by 2.30pm the game against Whimple went ahead and the sun came out briefly too!
On paper the Clyst Hydon team was not particularly strong, however, the game turned out to be a close run thing with everyone giving 100% effort.
Clyst Hydon lost the toss and were put into bat first.
Pat Harris and Stuart Eaglesome made a good start, seeing off some quite pacey bowling from the young whimple attack. After Stuart's wicket fell it was Clinton Lewis who stepped up to the crease and we were all treated to an excellent display of batting with Clint making over 100.
There were also good performances from Matt Harris, Ryan Bartram and Philippa Hodgson.
After a brief middle order collapse (again!) the final total was pushed on to 205/7
Tea was supplied by Alan & Vikki Baggs (a BIG thankyou for that guys!) and then it was Whimple's turn to bat.
Whimple started slowly and a couple unexpected quick wickets fell early on, courtesy of Dick Richards who bowled well before retiring from the field, substituted by Alice Johnson.
There were some good bowling performances from Patrick Harris, Matt Harris and Mike Johson, however, Whimple achieved their target of 206 with a few overs to spare with the loss of 6 wickets.
The game was played in a true friendly spirit and entertained those off the field as well as on it!
Well done Whimple - Next time...
