Clyst Hydon v Thorverton (friendly)
The game against Thorverton on Sunday 11th May was close run with Thorverton emerging the winners at the last ball of the match.
Clyst Hydon opened the batting and Bryn Jones (accompanied by Mike Johnson) made an excellent start scoring 39 before being dismissed.
There was a slight collapse of batting before Clinton Lewis took control and with the support of Philippa Hodgson put on an a fantastic partnership score of 107 before Clint was finally caught just 4 runs short of another century!
Philippa went on to carry her bat and the team ended up with a total of 206/7
There was a short interuption for rain which resulted in the loss of 3 overs per side.
Thorverton batted well in reply and despite their captain being given 'out' for caught behind he claimed he did not touch the ball with his glove and was allowed to continue, eventually ending up with 94 runs to his credit.
With only 3 overs left to bowl Thorverton needed 6 runs to win, however, some good defensive bowling by Mike Johnson and Simon Hodgson took the game right to the wire. The last over almost resulted in a wicket when a dropped catch attempt was put down and it all rested on the last ball of the game when 'Hoggy' let the soapy ball slip out of his fingers for a full toss, gifting the batsman 4 runs and a no ball in the process!
A good all round performance from Clyst Hydon with notable contributions from Andy Sutton, Bob Gitsham and Paul Selwood who kept wicket.
Teas were provided by Bob 'Hootch' Gitsham who has now set the standard for future spreads!
