CLYST HYDON 1st XI V KINGSBRIDGE (12/7/8 LEAGUE)
Sri Lankan all-rounder Dhanuja Nandana delivered the goods with bat and ball as Clyst Hydon continued to hold the high ground in the C Division with a 21-run win at home to Kingsbridge.
After winning the toss again and electing to bat, Clyst got off to a reasonably good start with Ian Sutton (39), John Rhodes (33) but a middle order collapse with the failure of P.Harris (6), G.Trude (9), C.Lewis (8), and K.Sercombe (5) saw the Clyst lads strugling for 131 for 8 but some fine hard hitting from Nandana (20) and Skipper M.Dudley (18) helped guide the hosts to 187 for nine.
Adam Buckland nabbed five wickets for 37 runs and Ben Glover took two for 58.
Nandana returned figures of five for 35 as the visiting side were bundled out for 166. Kev Sercombe claimed three for 44.
Kingsbridge were pointed in the right direction by Andy Wilmot (43) and looked likely winners while Ashley Treeby (87), who had a charmed life remained;.
Treeby started to run out of partners when Kingsbridge slumped from 159 for five to 159 for eight and got out soon after.
Kingsbridge remain Clyst's nearest challengers at the top, but the chasing pack is now hard behind them,
Clyst Hydon skipper Martyn Dudley said: "It was a close game and at times advantage went both ways.
“That we prevailed in the end was probably down to our tail wagging to get us up to a competitive score. It was good for us that we won our 'big game' but Seaton and Feniton both lost".
“We need to maintain the level of consistency we have found and take each game as it comes, top performance from the boys, who maintained their composure and fielded well under pressure, surely the Man of the Match goes to D.Nandana brisk 20 took us to a reasonable score and that match winning last spell which sealed the win for Clyst Hydon!"
