Exeter Civil Service vs Clyst Hydon (Evening League) 12/5/09

Jelley sets Clyst on winning course...

Clyst Hydon edged a high scoring encounter at Foxhayes by 20 runs to begin the 2009 evening league season with a victory.

The visitors, having won the toss, posted 207-3 from 20 overs with opener Chris Jelley carrying his bat for 112no.
Jelley put on a stand of 59 with Russ Corney (35) for the opening wicket, before adding a further 103 for the second wicket with Pat Harris (47).
Kris Calderhead was the pick of the Civil bowling with 2-50.

In reply, the hosts began the 10-per-over chase at a ferocious pace, reaching 101-1 with 9 overs remaining thanks to Greg Newcombe (52) and N Childs (66), who blasted a partnership of 91 for the second wicket.
Newcombe was then spectacularly caught in the deep by Mike Johnson and, in fading light, Clyst's bowlers were able to regain control, eventually restricting Civil to 180-7 from 20 overs.
Particularly impressive again with the ball was Jelley, who returned figures of 4-25 to add to his earlier century with the bat.

Exeter Civil Service 0pts, Clyst Hydon 2pts.
