Clyst Hydon vs Barnstaple May 16th 2009
Skipper Martin Dudley won the toss and elected to bat on a windy wet day, but thanks to the club covers the track was dry and good for batting.
The home team started badly again, losing quick wickets M. Fitt and C. Holmes in the first 5 overs.
C.Lewis joined D.Reed and put a few runs on the board untill Reed fell lbw to M. Metters.
In came K. Sercombe and between him and Lewis put on a valuable 89 run partnership to take the home team to 150 when Lewis was given out lbw on 49. From then on wickets fell rapidly and the home team were skittled out for 176 losing 6 wickets for only 26 runs with Sercombe the last one out on 56.
Fielding, Clyst Hydon got off to a great start and had the visitors in trouble who were struggling at 102 for 7, L. Morgan 3-23, M. Johnson 2-37,K. Sercombe 2-57 doing the damage but some great hard hitting from R. Holm (35) and S. Moore (24 no) and extras 37 saw the visitors win by 2 wickets with an over to spare.
No excuses for the defeat with bowlers conceding too many wides and middle order batting not up to B division standards was the main concern and cause for loss.
