Woodbury II vs Clyst Hydon II 16/5/09
Clyst IIs suffered their first league defeat of the 2009 season at the hands of a Woodbury IIs side who were noticeably stengthened by the absence of a first team fixture. The home side won the toss and invited Clyst to bat first, the visitors being bowled out for 178 with two overs still remaining. Dave Harris and Mike Glenny posted a steady partnership of 47 for the first wicket and Si Holmes followed up with a knock of 30, but this heralded a middle order collapse for Clyst against the bowling of Rob Jones (4-65).
The tail then wagged with Chunky Dowell, Will Moore & Steve Pettitt all striking some lusty blows as the final two wickets added an impressive 42 runs (and 2 further batting points).
Woodbury wasted no time setting about the chase, James Kavanagh opening up with some destructive hitting in a quickfire 49 before being caught in the deep by Pat Harris. The hosts then stuttered to 85-4 against Matt Harris (2-50) before a match-winning 5th wicket partnership of 51 between Andy Smale (55) & Robbie Carter (34no). Carter was left to finish things off on his own as Woodbury cruised home by 5wkts with plenty of overs to spare. Clyst meanwhile, will rue some dropped catches and a tight run-out decision as they ponder what might have been...!
Woodbury II 20 pts, Clyst Hydon II 6pts
