Clyst Hydon 2nd XI vs Kentisbeare 2nd XI
Clyst IIs slipped to a disappointing defeat at neighbours Kentisbeare II. After being asked to bat first on a damp track, the visitors were soon in deep trouble at 48-5 against disciplined swing bowling from Harry Howe (2-37) and Richard Durrant (2-27). Paul Garnham (28) & Mark Doyle (44) then fought back with a sixth wicket stand of 66, before the Clyst tail wagged with Neil Chambers (28no) and Chunky Dowell (11no) adding an unbeaten 36 for the ninth wicket. A total of 194-8 seemed a good effort from the middle and lower order.
Kentisbeare made light work of the chase initially with Chris Gillett (65) & Gary Farley (26) nearly over the 100 mark before both openers went in quick succession. At one end, the home side were losing wickets rapidly against a superb spell from Bruce Wilkinson (4-38), who was still suffering the after-effects of an earlier local anaesthetic! Chambers also chipped in with 2-61.
But at the other end, Howe was blasting an unbeaten half century at a strike-rate of nearly 200 to see Kentisbeare home with 3 wickets - and plenty of overs - to spare.
Kentisbeare II (19pts), Clyst Hydon II (7pts)
