Clyst Hydon 2nd XI vs Woodbury 2nd XI
Full credit to Clyst IIs and Woodbury IIs for defying the elements on another miserable Saturday and agreeing to play a shortened game despite the very wet conditions underfoot.
Clyst were batting and had reached 42-1 when the first rain arrived. After a lengthy delay, the teams were just getting ready to go out again when a second downpour followed. Many sides would have conceded defeat to mother nature at this point, but Clyst skipper Mike Glenny and Woodbury counterpart Kevin Miller agreed to wait over an hour for the puddles to clear and make a final attempt at continuing the match!
Clyst reached 173-7 from their 32 overs, opener Si Holmes top scoring with 40 and good support from Rob O'Connell (28), Glenny (22) and Hefin Wood (20). Miller took 2-34 for the visitors.
Woodbury started well with opener David Allen making 42, but decided to shut up shop after collapsing to 89-6. Chalky White (20), Miller (17no) and Mickey Beare (18no) helped to pick up two battings points as Woodbury finished on 128-6. Chris Holmes (2-28) was the pick of the bowlers for Clyst.
